Nymphicus

The monotypic Nymphicus genus comprises a single species – the Cockatiel. It is native to the Australian mainland and is widely distributed throughout Australia.

It is a very popular pet – they are very social and form a tight bond to the owner. They enjoy being stroken on the back of the head. They are very intelligent and can learn to whistle short melodies and speak simple words or sentences.
