The monotypic genus Necropsittacus includes a single species, which sadly are now extinct.
Rodrigues Parrot was endemic to the Rodrigues Island east of Madagascar. It was first classified by the French ornithologist Alphonse Milne-Edwards in 1867 as Psittacus rodricanus but in 1874 he moved the species to its own genus Necropsittacus.
