The Nymphicus genus comprises a single specie - the Cockatiel. It is native to the Australia mainland and are widely distributed throughout Australia.
It is a very popular pet - they are very social and form a tight bond to the owner. They enjoy being stroken on the back of the head. They are very intelligent and can learn to whistle short melodies and speak simple words or sentences.
